The artist has given the entirety of his £25,000 honor cash to the trust for venues, which functions to protect the UK's small music venues.

He was awarded the cheque on 16 October as his latest record the album was declared the best record of the previous year.

He has chosen to hand the money over to the Music Venues Trust, in acknowledgment of the essential function grassroots venues had in his early career.

"I would not have achieved this success if it hadn't been for all the gigs I did around the area, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," said Fender. "These locations are legendary, but they are struggling."

Since the start of 2023, at least 150 of these spaces have shut down – approximately one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

Over the past year, well-known musicians such as Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the Music Venues Trust in its initiatives to help venues survive, by applying a small levy to their ticket costs, which supports smaller concert halls.

Fender also took part, generating more than £100,000 on his live tour to support thirty-eight grassroots venues across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The donation helped venues that were dealing with imminent closure due to difficulties stemming from flooding, fires and personal losses, as well as regulatory hurdles, conflicts and noise complaints.

Additional spaces received monetary aid in modernizing amenities and technical equipment that helped performers and fans.

"The concept that revenue from performances in major spaces helps the local stages, where it begins for musicians like me, is just common sense," the star has commented.

He is among several artists to donate his award prize money to charitable organizations.

When they won the award in the year 1996 for their release the album, lead singer the singer declared that the band would contribute their prize money to the non-profit War Child.

That year, rapper and singer the artist shared her bounty among multiple good causes, like the children's charity and a Sickle Cell organization.

"I also gave a thousand pounds to my local community centre, to their gymnastics program, because I practiced gymnastics when I was growing up and they required better apparatus," the artist explained to the media.

Two years ago, Ezra Collective contributed their prize money to the local youth club that supported their band, in addition to other grassroots music organisations.

And the 1994 recipients the group donated their prize to a multiple sclerosis charity after a friend was identified with the disease.

"Winning was sufficient," said artist the singer. "The prize was the cherry on top but we didn't require the cherry, because we had the main prize. So our winning impacted the lives of others."

In the past week, the trust announced it had saved two local spots in the South East, by transferring them to local control.

The Joiners in the city and The Croft in the city were acquired under the community ownership initiative, which is supported by the arts council and supporters who purchase "stakes" in the venues.
